We live in Berlin Steglitz in a building from 1904, (fully refurbished back in the late eighties). Back in 2002 we rebuild most of the interior when we moved in. The apartment itself is spacious and has all you may ask for, a large kitchen and living area, a Sauna and a lot of other luxuries you may want. You can enjoy breakfast or dinner on our terrace facing the quiet back yard or even have Indian curry on the ground floor...

The house itself has five floors, we are on the second (ground floor is zero, first is one above the ground...) The apartment spans the entire depth of the building from the busy street front to the very quiet back yard with its green garden. The house has an elevator/lift available.

The apartment has the following rooms: large living, eating and cooking area; large kids room; large master bedroom, small guest sleeping room and a pretty decent wellness bath room. We have attached a floor plan for your orientation.

Since we have two kids, there are numerous toys and games available and we even have a piano in the kids room. All other amenities of a modern urban life are in place as well, may that be a large LCD screen, DVD or even a Wii for bad weather days. But since you are in most fascinating city of Germany, we believe you will not need any of these... :-)

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you may ask for, starting from dish washer, micro wave and a large American fridge up to an Nespresso coffee machine and all the tools you need to cook and enjoy life. There are two bath rooms, one smaller for guests with a toilet and a shower, that holds the washing machine and dryer/tumbler. The master bath room is more spacious with a shower and bathtub for two, a toilet and bidet and a large Sauna for colder days. You are invited to enjoy all of that during your stay.

Of course, we have all the technical gadgets and modern communication equipment you may need, a 50 M/bit DSL line for a decent Internet access and with IPTV more than a hundred TV channels. Boredom is somewhere else... ;-) And to avoid you having to do house work, we have a cleaning woman that will come every week to bring things in order. (not in the summer season)

Our apartment in Berlin Steglitz is located on the southern end of the second largest shopping road in Berlin called "Schloßstraße". Within walking distance to your left from the house door you will enjoy shopping and urban life, to your right you will find quietness and relaxation in the Botanic Garden. We have everything Berlin has to offer in vicinity, shopping, urban life, parks, museums, exhibitions and direct access to the public transport system. You can enjoy the quietness of our backyard or can dive into urban life of one of the most vibrant cities in Europe. Within less than a minute walking distance is a cinema and a show theater and several pubs and restaurants in its vicinity.

A bus station is located right in front of the house, the next train station, both for underground and S-Bahn is less than 3 minutes walking distance. The availability for both public transportation as well as streets and highways could not be better.

We have very nice neighbors in the house itself that, as long as they are in Berlin, have always been a very helpful resource for information and even joint BBQs in the summer on the backyard terrace. They are happy to assist you getting settled in as they have the keys to the apartment and know where everything is. You will be left alone if you wish so, or will have social life right away.

Generally spoken, we are bound by the school holidays of the city of Berlin. This would be June 20th to August 3rd, 2013.

Within these dates we are flexible and can adjust to your needs. The exchange should be for three weeks or more.

We are looking for an exchange with someone in California, with a preference for the Bay Area or just north of San Francisco.

A much appreciated alternative would be a caribbean island, probably Barbados, but also otherwhere.

We are a family of four, you can see us on the picture attached. Two girls and us, Martina and Oliver. Oliver is a software sales manager and Tine is the office manager at another software company. Charlotte and Emily both go to school.

We speak fluent German, English and French and get a good grip on Italian and Spanish, though these need quite some improvement to be able to call them fluent...

There are several neighbors of ours that are happy to help with any questions, they have keys to our apartment and are fluent in English, in case you need help or some local advice.

If you have kids at the age of 5-15, they might become friends with our neighbor kids as well. We do have two cats, but since they live outside, there is not much you need to care for. You are welcome to feed and cuddle them, but the neighbors kids would do that, too.
